Mother Of Pearl Industry Co. Ltd. ("MOPI") was founded in Chiang Mai, Thailand by Jean-Marc Domby in association with a co-operative of Tahitian Pearl farmers of which Mr. Domby’s farm is a member. As a by-product of pearl farming they collect the rare and precious Pinctada margaritifera shells which display the same brilliant nacre that produces the Tahitian Black Pearl. The shells are imported to Thailand to take advantage of the highly skilled Thai craftsmen working at competitive labor costs to produce world-class shell inlay products.

MOPI has built a modern factory facility that incorporates western standards including safety features and accommodations to insure the good health of our employees. Our factory is safe and clean.


Our policies and manufacturing procedures surpass all Thai legal requirements established to safeguard the health and safety of our work force. MOPI employees (many of whom are hired and trained in association with Thai Government agencies for the disabled) are treated with respect, receive compensation and benefits that are among the best in the region, and are carefully trained to meet the highest possible quality standards.

We also supply many companies around the world with precision-cut mother of pearl components for inlay into their own products.
